LEATHERWORK
Introduction to Leatherwork
Course Difficulty Level: Novice
Course Length: 2 Days
Course Cost: £250
This course is a perfect introduction to leatherwork and to some of the foundation skills needed to work with leather, such as cutting leather, leather tools and their uses, hand tooling and stamping, dyeing, finishing and hand polishing. You will learn how to make a no stitch, laced leather tote bag. The tote bag is made with leather and rivets but if you want to add to your learning experience you have the option to make a stitched internal pocket.
The tote bag is loosely based on the American style leather saddle bags of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Most American towns had leather workers making saddles, shoes and bags. Some of these leather workers were "free spirits" sitting out in the streets making simple bags with little to no tools. They needed something straightforward to make that had durability, function and could easily be customised with different patterns and fastenings. Hence the Saddle Bag was born, and in turn our No Stitch Laced Leather Tote Bag.
Class sizes limited to 4. Lots of individual attention from master upholsterers.
Course Fees include tuition, neutral coloured leather and rivets . Equipment and leather tools are available for use in the workroom. Additional coloured leathers can be ordered from Signature Interiors.
